Our little bird

Lately, it’s hard to keep a straight face when we feed Avery her fruits and vegetables. She cranes her neck up and opens her mouth as wide as she can – like a baby bird.

We don’t starve her, I swear. She’s just a very good eater.

A little more freedom

Jeff and I love to go out to lunch on Saturdays. It’s become a little tradition. Avery used to just hang out in her car seat with us while we dined until recently. She had her first experience in a restaurant high chair, and there is no turning back.  She was engaged the entire time, enjoyed her freedom and loved to watch mom and dad pick up her toys from the floor every 3 seconds after she tossed them back down.

Here’s our girl at Teakwoods back in April:

Fathers Day

fathersday2

Having a wonderful day with my girls… woke up to an amazing breakfast, watched the Red Sox game, got to do a quick photo shoot with Avery, now we’re off to the pool, and we’ll be having some BBQ later. I couldn’t ask for a better first Father’s Day.

New pink outfit

Avery’s outfit was a gift from a co-worker of Diana’s, so she asked me to take a picture of her wearing it.

Sunday Best

Avery looked too cute on Sunday, so I had to grab a picture.

Doctor’s visit

Posted on by Dad

So today Avery had an appointment with the doctor for a check-up and some shots. She’s doing great – 17lb., 5oz., and 26.5 inches long. That puts her in the 75th and 73rd percentile for weight and height, respectively. Her head circumference is in the 43rd percentile – also a good sign.

We were told we can introduce her to fruit and even some mashed food from our plates. It was suggested that we start baby-proofing the house as she’ll be on the move and getting into trouble soon. That ought to be an adventure.

The doctor said that unlike most of the first-time parents that he sees in his office, he felt comfortable allowing us to keep her. That was a relief for us. 😉 And, based on Avery’s good looks and the amount that she talked throughout her check-up, he predicts that she’ll be a news anchor one day.

Stay tuned.

Silly game

I don’t really know what started this game between Avery and I, but it had her belly-laughing for some reason and mom scrambling for the Flip camera.

Sweet potatoes

Posted on by Dad

This is Avery’s first week eating something other than formula and rice cereal. Our first attempt – pureed peas – didn’t go over very well. We think it was a texture issue due to the tiny bits of skin that remained no matter how much we ran it through the food processor.

Sweet potatoes are another story entirely. As you’ll see in the video, her first experience was a good one. It was all Diana could do to keep her from swallowing the spoon.

Yelling and yelling and yelling

Posted on by Dad

Every day, Avery breaks into long bouts of shouting and carrying on. She loves the sound of her own voice (and we’re baffled as to where that came from).

She’s also paying a lot more attention to the pets – especially Eli. Eli’s always been a close companion, nuzzling her during her bottle time on the couch since we brought her home. But lately, Avery’s been demanding his attention. Every morning, the three of us cuddle and play in bed for about an hour. And, when he trots off, Avery’s been known to scream at him to come back.
